This book was interesting and confusing, but here are some things i picked up:
- Symbolism really took part in the story like when the wine spilled in front of the wine shop, it was also foreshadowing, this fortold the revolution that was yet to come, and symbolised the blood because the wine was red.
- This story had some history in it (from Dicken's childhood), like in the second paragraph of the bigginnig of the story.
- I think this quote was really important "I would embrace any sacrifice for you and for those dear to you," the reason this quote is important is because it was said by Carton, and he is the one who saves Darney for Lucie.
- This story is pretty interesting because for the most part it is about love, then towards the end it goes to its true purpose to tell about the French Revolution.
- There are a couple of motifs in this book for example one of them is imprisonment. This happens to some characters quite literaly and others it is sort of mentally like Dr. Manette.
- Other symbolism is Madame Defarge's knitting, it has a list of who is gonna die just like in Greek mythology (the three sisters that can kill people using a string).
- One interesting thing Dickens uses a lot of characters and somehow they are all somehow connected.
